“Global Harmonisation of Hydrogen Certification"

20 January 2022 | 10:00 – 11:30 AM CET

The German Energy Agency (dena) and the World Energy Council (WEC) – Germany cordially invite you to the launch of the joint study report “Global Harmonisation of Hydrogen Certification” on January 20, 2022, from 10:00 - 11:30 AM CET.

Many countries around the world have discovered renewable hydrogen as a means to decarbonise their energy systems. In this context, proof of the sustainable production of hydrogen is key. Certification of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives is a central instrument to demonstrate compliance with the requirements for renewable hydrogen and to make it distinguishable from its chemically identical fossil equivalent. Currently, there is a variety of hydrogen standards globally. But what would it take to globally harmonise requirements? What is a „common denominator“ enabling suppliers to address different markets?

The joint report assesses eleven standards/regulatory frameworks for renewable hydrogen worldwide and investigates their commonalities, differences, and potential for harmonisation. During the webinar, the study results will be presented by Katharina Sailer, senior expert for renewable gases and bioenergy from dena. We also look forward to impulse statements by Andreas Kuhlmann, CEO of dena, and Dr Carsten Rolle, Executive Director of the World Energy Council – Germany.
